Transition Time at The Big House
They say that when one door closes, another one opens, and those prophetic words certainly apply to the Big House. After 14 years, over 20,000 pilgrims, and countless memories, Kirk and Kirsten West have moved on, and the Big House Foundation has taken possession of the future home of the Allman Brothers Band Museum. Extensive renovation is going on as you read this, and because of the work involved, the year-long metamorphosis from private residence to public museum will preclude any further visits to the House. Of course, all good things come to those who wait, so your patience will be rewarded when the doors to the Big House re-open, hopefully in late 2008. You will then find a state-of-the-art, interactive music museum, which will prominently display the world’s largest collection of Allman Brothers memorabilia, tastefully presented in a retro, 1970s-style setting. Thanks to a fortuitous purchase by the BHF, you will also be able to enjoy a beautiful park and mediation garden next door to the museum, which will greatly enhance your Big House experience.
We at the Big House Foundation are brimming with excitement, and cannot thank you enough for your interests, contributions and support of the Allman Brothers Band Museum – without you, this dream would not be turning into a reality. During the coming months, we will keep you posted on the renovation process with updated photos and progress reports, which will be available at www.thebighousemuseum.org. Kirk and Kirsten have moved just across the river in Macon, allowing Kirk to continue his invaluable participation in the project he loves so much. Spread the word – the road will go on forever, and it leads right to 2321 Vineville Avenue.
Sincerely,
The Big House Foundation Board of Directors
